Legendary caddie managers honored Joe Barreiro of Sleepy Hollow Country Club in New York and Eddie Barr of The Beverly Country Club in Illinois were inducted into The Caddie Hall of Fame in 2017 Barreiro below is credited with mentoring thousands of youth and adult caddies during a career that stretched more than four decades He was inducted into The Hall of Fame on Oct 15 at a reception celebrating his achievements and retirement Barreiro walked through the gates at Sleepy Hollow in 1965 as a 13 year old caddie and was hired as the clubs caddie manager in 1972 He served in that role for 45 years and is credited with helping keep golf a walking sport at the club Eddie Barr who died in 2005 was posthumously inducted into The Caddie Hall of Fame during a ceremony in August at Beverly His award was accepted by Evans Alum and former Beverly caddie Collins Fitzpatrick left The longtime caddie manager had an extensive career at Beverly stretching from the 1940s through the 1980s He promoted caddying and mentored thousands of caddies many of whom became Evans Scholars At the club a bronze trophy honors his role in helping to raise the Beverly caddie program to the highest standard L ongtime PGA TOUR caddie and NBC Sports Golf Channel on course reporter Jim Bones Mackay was inducted into The Caddie Hall of Fame on Sept 14 during the 2017 BMW Championship The Scottsdale Arizona resident is one of the most well known caddies in the games history beloved by fans around the world for his work alongside Phil Mickelson Mackay began his career as a caddie looping for Larry Mize Scott Simpson and Curtis Strange before being hired by Mickelson in 1992 This is a great honor for me he said I would like to share it with all the caddies at golf clubs around the country and also my fellow PGA TOUR caddies with whom I had such a great time With Mackay on his bag Mickelson won five major championships notched 41 PGA TOUR victories and represented the United States 22 consecutive times on Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup teams We are honored and excited to welcome Bones Mackay into The Caddie Hall of Fame said the WGAs Vince Pellegrino Bones has elevated the profile of caddies worldwide and inspired countless young people to want to be caddies To celebrate Mackays induction BMW donated 50000 to the Evans Scholars Foundation in Mackays name Administered by the WGA The Caddie Hall of Fame highlights the tradition of caddying by recognizing individuals who have devoted their lives to golf through caddying or by supporting caddies Caddie HOF inductions Jim Bones Mackay beloved by fans for his work with Phil Mickelson is honored at the BMW Championship To learn more about The Caddie Hall of Fame and its inductees please visit www caddiehalloffame org H O N O R I N G C A D D I E S I N 2 0 1 7 CADDIE SPOTLIGHT 12 The WGA Evans Scholars Magazine
