44 The WGA Evans Scholars Magazine Mark Speltz 96 wrote in August I went and moved across the country I started a new job as a senior historian and vice president with Abbot Downing a Wells Fargo business As a member of the Family Business History Center at Wells Fargos corporate headquarters in San Franciscos Financial District I use historical documents and storytelling to help families of unique wealth discover understand and preserve their family history for the benefit of future generations My wife Kari and I settled in Lafayette in the East Bay where our daughter Marie will start first grade We are excited to call California home now and look forward to exploring the beautiful state Retired from programming and teaching EVANS SCHOLARS MAILBOX Jim Davies Minn 68 wrote in December Andrea and I have lived in St Louis for most of our 46 years of marriage I retired from my career as a computer programmer in 2013 I spent the last 20 of those years with the Carpenters District Council of St Louis Prior to that I was a programmer for the Catholic Archdiocese of St Louis My earlier career was as a high school mathematics teacher For many years I have also been a private mathematics tutor We have two daughters Patti is a career girl living in Indianapolis Susan lives in St Louis with her husband Tim and our two granddaughters Na Yen is 16 and Kora is almost 2 I have recently rekindled my love for golf playing in a senior league the last five summers I bowl three times a week and get plenty of exercise with Coal my lively 4 year old Irish wolfhound I worked at the senior PGA tournament at Bellerive Country Club with the Evans Scholars group in 2013 I am signed up to work again this summer Influencing state legislature Scott Christensen Minn 71 wrote in July I was recently elected to the Texas Silver Haired Legislature The TSHL serves as a nonpartisan organization recommending to the Texas Legislature areas for legislative improvement primarily affecting seniors The 17th TSHL that in which I am a freshman representative was sworn in and will serve for two years until election time in 2019 I was elected vice chair of the Rural Urban Committee TSHL resolutions have influenced over 200 bills passed in the state legislature in its 31 year history I am looking forward to serving in the TSHL and its kind of a natural move for me after serving 17 years in elected local government positions and eight in appointed ones all while working full time As always I continue to be very grateful for the Evans Scholarship and will continue as a supporter And Mary and our son and daughter are all doing well may it always be Gina and Mark Steward Minn 93 with children Peyton Peyton and MacKenzie Ashley and Dan Palmer Minn 12 welcomed daughter Winifred ReneƩ on May 25 Bob Murphy Minn 75 wrote recently After serving two terms as the mayor of Lakewood Colorado I was appointed the state director of AARP Colorado Russell Ryan 03 earned a professional engineering license He is an associate at alliantgroup in Houston Dan Palmer 12 earned a professional engineering license He and his wife Ashley welcomed daughter Winifred ReneƩ on May 25 Nhu Richards 15 is a fitness coach at Alchemy 365 in Saint Paul Sam Seelos 16 is a merchandiser processing and food ingredients at CHS in Inver Grove Heights
